When having any work done on your home there are details that you need to know and question that you should ask of your contractor. Generators not only involve extensive electrical work but natural gas or Propane gas as well. You should always ask the contractor about their licensing by the state of Virginia for their particular trade. Electrical, Gas and plumbing all require individual licenses. If the contractor is using a sub contractor for part of the work make sure that they are licensed and insured as well. Always ask if the individual working on your home is licensed by the state for his or her trade, not just the company. Always ask about permits. Permits are required whenever there is an upgrade or new installation of any system in your home. If the contractor suggests that you get the permit as a home owner you should decline. The permit holder is the person ultimately responsible and liable for the work. A reputable contractor should never have a problem getting the permit in their name. This insures that the job will be inspected and the contractor is responsible to make sure it is correct. All of the above is to insure a quality safe and functional project.
